 Nice vacations

Beautiful beach, all services and facilities I would rate around 4. It was difficult to get a bellboy services with golf carts, pool side snack restaurant was always very busy, but if you tip well you can get a fast service...

 Iberostar satisfies once again

I have been to 4 different Iberostar properties over the pet 4 years, 2 in the D.R. and 2 in Cuba. They haven't let me down yet. Weather was perfect but that's never something I would complain about regardless, because it is beyond anybody's control. The facility is not brand new but is very well maintained and I could not find fault, didn't see anything in disrepair or even any peeling paint!

The resort is a fairly long drive from the airport, 90 minutes, which does slightly cut into your vacation time but once again, you should KNOW that in advance so no reason to whine about it. The bus is pleasant and air conditioned.

Staff at the resort were mostly great, a few frowny faces but mostly smiley ones. Whenever we asked for something such as for our safe to be repaired or for a cot in the room, they responded very quickly. At the restaurants they have a ton of staff and they cater to your every need. I am pretty easy to please, the buffet restaurant had lots of variety for my tastes. We all know that Cuba is not known for its culinary excellence but I would give the food at the resort a solid 4 out of 5. Does the buffet get repetitive? Sure but show me somewhere that it doesn't and I'll be surprised.

The entertainment was only mediocre, a couple good evening shows and a few that were "not so good". The singers and dancers were excellent, they just didn't have much variety, 1 night a Cuban show, another night a Latin show, another night a mixed show, you get my point! Once again, we aren't paying big bucks for Vegas quality entertainment. It's something to do in the evenings, if the show is no good that night, go to the bar or hang out in the main lobby which was beautiful and had enough seating for everyone.

The beaches (there are 2) are stunning. Water is shallow, clear and warm. I didn't see any jellyfish or seaweed, just fine white sand and azul waters. Maybe the nicest beach I've ever seen and that includes Varadero.

Since the resort is huge, they do have golf carts cruising around to take you from one end to the other, although if you are fit the walking is not a bad way to work off the food you are (likely over) eating all week. Sometimes you have to wait a bit for a golf cart, standing in the sun for 5 minutes is not such a bad thing.

They have a quiet pool for adults only near the spa, a huge activity pool in the middle of everything, nd a 3rd pool at the far end of the resort which I did not get to. Swim up bar, pool activities, all the normal stuff. A bonus for me and my kids is that they have floating chaise thingys available, give the pool guy a peso every morning and he grabs as many as you like. Pretty relaxing floating in the pool listening to calypso music.

Bringing old clothes and cheap gifts is always recommended, a trip to the dollar store for toiletries and school supplies goes a long way. These people live on next to nothing and they genuinely appreciate what we do for them. They love Canadians!

I always feel safe in Cuba, don't think I would feel the same way in Jamaica or Mexico these days when going off the resort. There isn't much in this area except the little tourist town 10 minutes away by bus, for shopping, the disco, and a couple restaurants. We had fun at the disco one night but it was mostly 20 year olds drinking their face off, didn't bother me a bit.

Overall I would give this resort a solid 4.5 out of 5. Some people can just never be satisfied and find something to complain about no matter what, But when you think of bang for the buck I can't imagine doing any better than Iberostar.

I would go back in a heartbeat.

 MY HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE

it was vey good clean and well put together staff is very friendly and helpfull, it is a place to remember and for sure to return.
The only recommendation would be; train the Chefs a little bit more as the food is too bland, by having the staff trained the food waste will be eliminated.

 Below expectations from Toronto

I want to start off with the flight, we were not able to land in Santa Clara since the airport on allows 2 planes at at time, we had to circle for sometime go back to Varadero to refule, return only to find out we had to stay in the air for one more hour. A 3 hour flight turned into a 4.5 hour flight. Then the bus ride was 2 hours long. By the time we arrived we were exhausted , not greeted with drinks or any proper welcome. The hotel is clean , big rooms and a good size pool, the workers are friendly. Food was good and bad, Asian don't go. Italian not bad, Mediterranian was the best one of all restaurnts. Only one bufett , long lineups for omletes, or grilled food. The beach was beautiful and clean, fish all around you in the water. Overall would not return.

 Uneven quality

By Cuban standards, this was one of the best hotels my husband and I staid at. But the quality of the rooms varies considerably: we had to change room twice to get what we expected. We had requested an upper floor room, but the one we got (2809), while otherwise satisfactory, was on the lower floor. We were promptly assigned an upper floor room (3822) but when we moved to it we were appalled: it had a strong smell of sewer; the air conditioning vent on the ceiling was leaking and there was a puddle of water on the floor; the TV (an old 19" set) had a blurry and snowy image; the king size bed had only one side table with only one lamp (so it was impossible for both of us to read in bed at night). This room would have been totally unacceptable even for a 2 star hotel. The front desk staff promptly offered us another room (2929) which met our expectations (save for a few blemishes: the marble bathroom floor had a lot of black, tar-like stains, the bathroom vent didn't seem to work, the door to the balcony didn't lock, and sand fleas were crawling all over the room). The hotel grounds were very well kept, but it was hard for the first couple of days to find one's way around, especially at night, since the lamp posts were practically at ground level rather than higher up, and the numbers of each room complex, embossed on dark brass plates along the paths, were practically illegible. The grounds were mosquito free, thanks to regular spraying (which, however, should be done either very early in the morning of late in the evening when most people are still in their room). The main dining room always had interminable lines for omelets, pancakes, and other prepared foods; we only bothered once to stand in line). All in all, the hotel has the potential to be a 5-star hotel, if only some of the easily remediable problems were looked after. The best thing of all, of course was the beautiful Ensenachos beach, easily accessible with free golf-cart transportation on demand. A la carte restaurants were acceptable but below expectations for a 5-star hotel

 Excellent place for relaxation

It is one of the best places in Cuba and it fulfilled our expectations. Food was good and sometimes even great and our suite was always clean and quiet.
The beach is one of the best in Cuba, white sand in a small bay that protected us from the ocean waves. For sports you can do scuba, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, wind surfing, tennis, volleyball, etc.

 Change of Direction

This was my third visit to the Ensenachos. I booked online and did not receive any info about all of the changes at this resort. As I had coaxed two sets of inlaws to come with my husband and I and had bragged about how great it was, I had to do some backtracking. For example, I requested certain accommodations as there were two stroke survivors who had difficulty in walking great distances. Why would the resort stick my 4 inlaws at the accommodations furthest away and have the two closest bungalows totally closed up? It seems like the 'family end' of the resort is getting the better arrangements, (closer to the beach) than the 'adult end'. Also to go from 40 helpful concierges to 1 public relations person is ridiculous - and this person books all the dinners at the specialty restaurants - which we had a lot of difficulty getting the restaurants and the times we wanted.
On the positive side, despite the changes that are obviously affecting staff, they are as responsive and as friendly as before the Iberostar change.
Also, the food was the best this year than the past two years.

 Amazing, no complaints.

From check in to check out the staff could not have been more accommodating. The resort is quiet and secluded, and the immaculate landscaping provide great privacy while in your room. The drink selection was great with many familiar top shelf selections. Food, always a concern in Cuba, was a standout. Access to a la carte's was said to be limited to 3 a week but we were able to book all 7 nights. Beaches are flawless, great snorkeling right on site, and even better on the catamaran tour. The staff really put our great great experience over the top. So much so that we are considering getting married here next year. If you're looking for a big party resort this is not for you. We're in our late 20's and had plenty of fun drinking late into the evenings, but did hear some complaints from young single visitors. However, there is a disco a short bus ride away. And the entertainment staff even took a group into a further local town to salsa. Based on conversations with other tourists this is the best resort in the area. Others are busier with sub par food, drinks, and ammenities. For a quiet couples retreat this is the best I've seen!

A great place for a quite vacation

This was our first trip to Cuba, so I can not really compare with other locations. The hotel was very nicely decorated and clean, and the staff were very friendly. The food was fine, but I personally did not like the Italian restaurant. The "Japanese" restaurant was not even close to Japanese but its food was good. Overall, everything was great and I am very happy with this place.

 Superbe site

 A Solid 3 Star Hotel

1 and 1/2 hour bus ride from the airport. Lots of hotel construction going on and noise at night. Some staff unhelpful bordering rude. Food typical of a 3 star hotel. Hotel snack shacks near beach are terrible. Beds VERY hard. One day no clean towels and took until 11:30 p.m. at night to get a clean towel. Stains on towels and bedding. However, lots of work going on and appears will be very nice when done. Beach is incredible but need a transport cart to get to it - long waits. Hotel tries to upsell you to a better room when you arrive (for us it was $50 per person per night extra for a better room). Everyone has their hand out for a tip. Still, had a nice time.
