The hotel was nice and clean. The staff is friendly. The rooms are clean and well stocked. The beach location is beautiful. The Oceanview rooms buildin g 4 was ON POINT!

I have been to Puerto Plata twice before but never at this resort. I had taken my parents as they were hyped about D.R based on how we spoke so highly of food and service. This resort was just bad-food, service, activities were okay.Entertainment was good on two nights and rest was bad. My 10 yr old who only had pasta and bread-got sick and was throwing up and then I got sick and my then my mom got sick. They had given my dad a room on the third floor and would not change it till next day even though they had a ground floor room available and knew he had a bad knee. 16 people that I know got sick here.

My 3rd time at GRAND PARADISE and great as usual. Beautiful, clean room...I had no complaints for towels. SOME PEOPLE COMPLAIN just to feel superior:stay home! The variety & taste of food: excellent. The beach is one of the best.

The resort is very clean, staff are friendly and try to help when asked .. we took 2 excursions (safari/waterfalls and Paradise Island) and I'd recommend both, great value for the money ($50/$55 per person) the excursions are much cheaper from the beach vendors than from the tour company (saved $55 per person on the ones we bought).. the resort beach is very clean and the water warm, lots of chairs, windsurfers, kayaks and a hobiecat .. entertainment around the pool was good but a bit repititious, food was very good for someone not fussy and willing to try new things, only did one a la cart, Italian and it was great .. and I heard great tings about the grill a la cart as well .. the bartenders were friendly and fast to serve especially if you tip them a bit once in a while .. the market nearby was fun with lots of souvenier things to buy at good prices if you like to haggle a bit!! .. I walked a lot on the beach and into Peurto Plata and didn't feel unsafe, but was bothered a lot on the beach by people selling everything from towels to timeshares .. overall a great expersience and good value for the money ..

By no mean this was a 4 star hotel, it's more of a 2 star maximum. The front desk is not helpful at all, we had our beach towels stolen after leaving them for less than 5 minutes by the pool and the front desk did not help and lied to us saying that the security knew who took it. Food is not that good, don't experience with different or new food, stick with what you know (chicken, rice), we met a lot of people who got sick, I would recommend eating outside the resort in the plaza, which is less than a minute walk. Internet is very spotty and only works around the pool or at the front desk; again the plaza has a 24/7 free WIFI. The staff is rude and lazy. The entertainment has strong sexual references and in some aspect demeaning to women. The resort buildings could use some fixing, especially the roofs it looks like it's falling apart. The bar service is very cheap, the drinks are not as good, and they just give you what they have instead of saying "sorry, we do not have this". Overall, I would not recommend going to the Grand Paradise, unless you are on a very low budget, don’t care about the quality of food, and planning to spend a lot of time off the resort.

Did not get room as promised. Was not told resort activities shut down Easter week in resort. Let the locals in for 4 days Easter week and weekends. We paid and tehy gor the advantages for peanuts.

J'avais lû plusieurs commentaires négatifs sur le Grand Paradise qui ne sont absolument pas fondés. Quel endroit exceptionel. Le personnel est extraordinaire. Ils sont formidables ces Dominicains. Plein de joie de vivre,amicals, souriants. Choix de nourriture excellent. Chambre très très bien tenue faite tous les jours. Merci à CARMEN notre gentille femme de chambre. Nous serions prêts à retourner demain matin.

Après avoir lu toutes les commentaires sur cet endroit, je me suis dit, je vais aller me faire une idée par
moi-même n'étant pas exigeante dans mes critères et mes amies non plus. Pour la première fois, depuis les années que je voyage, j'ai eu la tourista ainsi qu'une autre de ma gang de 4 filles. En effet, plusieurs voyageurs ont été malade. A par ça, les chambres sont belles. Mon bâtiment était le plus loin, peu de pression pour la douche et très long avant d'avoir de l'eau chaude. Buffet; très routinier mais je ne suis pas morte de faim. Animation; moi qui en exige peu, trouvait les soirées longues malgré la présence de mes amies. On avait beau faire l'animation entre nous, à la longue le clown en nous ne sait plus quoi dire ou faire pour s'amuser. La plage superbe; il y a eu des jours où il y avait beaucoup d'algues par contre. Internet; pas moyen de déloguer alors tu perds le reste de minute pas pris. Réception; plusieurs parle français. Piscine; on ne s'y est pas baigner pas invitante. Disco; correct dépendamment des gens présent. Massage; demandé Jo sur la plage= du jamais vue!! Pour vrai c'est la première fois que je dis que je ne retournerai pas.

Well worth the price.
Buffet food service was varied and very good.

They hit you up for a timeshare sale right off the bat. Never experienced this at any of the resorts we have attended. We were firm and they left us alone after that. Security was everwhere and openly carrying clubs in their hands at all times, a little unnverving. Vendors on the beach were like a conga line, Every 5 min you were getting harrassed. Food was decent but repetitive.

Grand Paradise, need to re-name. There really was nothing GRAND about this place. We paid too much for ocean view with two beds and received neither (ocean was blocked by trees and we had one bed in the room). They upgraded us to a suite that smelled (fridge did not work, bedroom and kitchenette light, sliding door that did not lock)...the room was always damp. The room was not clean when we receive it after waiting until the next day (6pm was promised, we received it at 9). They said our room was ready but when we got to the room, they were still cleaning. Also we asked for 2nd bed, which they ended up taking out while they were cleaning.

Hospitality was lacking. Staff needs training on how to better manage issues (at no point did anyone apologize). They made me feel that I had no reason to want my issues addressed.

Our check-out was 1:00 pm. We asked for extension because as a result of our room issues. They asked for 30USD for the extension which we refused. Since our bus did not leave for the airport until 5:30 p.m The hotel provided a hospitality suite for us to shower which was dirty...dirty smelly towels (the stinge have not left me yet)and shower. I was so disgusted, I went to the public washroom to freshen up.

My family travel 2-3 times per year to all inclusive resports. This was by far the worst experience I ever had.

I WILL NEVER RETURN to that Resort. I posted my experience on our company blog for our 20,000 employees to read.

Hotel can be a solid 4 star if the number of students were limited. Spending 5 days with 100 students ages 17- 18 was a nightmare.

We went during our reading week and absolutely LOVED it! The staff is amazing, the food is great and the rooms are incredible. The front desk staff is very accomodating as well. We paid for standard room and got ocean view which was close to the beach (and the bar). I would come back here again and again. We made some great friends down there as well. And if you're in for some fun, everyone loves to party there! Downside: the amount of beach vendors, who eentually get to know you and will stop by everyday to offer you their product again. If you are just browsing, they think that it meals you want to buy.

The hotel is very clean but I found the staff weren't very friendly or accomadating for the most part.

Everything was awesome including the oceanview room, we had only paid for a gardenview room but per our request received oceanview at no additional cost. Food was great, great variety to choose from. Italian a la carte was sooo good. Animation staff were great and very entertaining and friendly and interesting to talk to. Resort was at capacity but beach was never crowded, a few more loungers available would have been nice. Would definitely go back there again, great place for an awesome price.

ROOM WAS CLOSE TO BEACH WHICH WAS EXCELLENT THE VIEW WHILE EATING, IN DINNING ROOM IS AMAZING BEEN THERE 3 TIMES SEEMS TO BE GOING DOWN HILL,CUT BACKS SERVICE IS NOT WHAT IT USE TO BE.

Run down, boring, lacking of food choices, ran out of certain drinks and food items, towels, facecloths were not mandatory had to ask for them. The lounge chairs were raty and dirty and lacking. Beach was nice but constantly got bombarded with vendors on the beach. Entertainment was lacking and very poor quality and what they did have was at 10pm. It was very quiet and not a lot going on. Don't go on the catamaran trip with Speedy, it was very rough on the water and the boat was nothing to talk about, old and uncomfortable. We were told we would be going to a beach and we could snorkel and swim on an island but not true they stop off shore and we had to jump of the boat from there to snorkel, not a lot to see. Myself and about half the others on the boat were sea sick the whole time.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I do admit that the service in the buffet restaurant could use some help, It was also hard to tip as you really did not have one servicer and they all worked everywere and any of them could service you. We did however after a few days get noticed and I must admit that the service got better. The
the food was great and there was always something you could find to fit the palit. The bar staff at all of the bars we quick and friendly. We had a great time at this resort and meet some interesting people, some we will remember and some we want to forget. The weather was nothing but sunshine for the first week and only a day and a half of rain the second. We would recommend this place to anyone and look forward to returning.

Arrival time in Puerto Plata was to be at 6:05pm Feb 3, 2012 due to many delays we didn't arrive until 12:30AM Feb 4, 2012.
We got the run around at the airport (YYZ) the Can Jet Rep advised us that there was a delay and would not be departing until 2:40pm when I checked the computer prior to leaving for the airport at 5:30 am everything was on time, she advised us to talk to the Air Transat rep which we did and they were not aware of any delays as their terminals still showed 10:10am Feb 3/12 and to go back and see them within the hour. We went back in an hour then they advised of the delay but would not provide any reason for the delay, and would not provide any food vouchers. I have requested a report on the delay from Air Transat & Can Jet.
We stayed at the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada Resort for 2 weeks.
I had requested a superior room which I did get room 2012, and was very happy, however after the 1st night the floor in the bedroom was wet and I called the front desk to advise them that water was coming in from somewhere they had a maintenance man come in and he noticed that the ceiling was leaking and water was running down the walls and said that it was due to the air-conditioning, (my ceiling at home doesn't leak when I use the air conditioning) I gave them the benefit of the doubt, however as the days passed the cracks in the ceiling were getting longer and more water leakage which started dripping on the bed. I spoke to some other vacationers that were in the same building and was also advised that they had some leaking but not so much as it was going into their bathrooms. Nothing got resolved about it only I had suggested that the bed be taken from the bedroom and moved to the living room and put the furniture in the living room in the bedroom which they complied with. Only when it did rain for 4 days we were unable to watch T.V as this was in the room that was leaking and the cable was not long enough to allow us to use in the other room.
The food was very bad actually disgusting my Husband and I have travelled to the Dominican 8 times and never had a problem finding something to eat and we have never got sick like we did here, the food here was inedible we lived on bread & butter most of the time. The service in the buffet was terrible they are short staffed and I can’t blame the staff as they were run off their feet. It was difficult to find clean tables. Out of the 2 weeks we were there they only served yogurt 2 days.
The beach towels were old and worn out, I had even seen the staff fold up returned towels and hand them out as “clean” towels to other people as they were short of towels.
Presidente beer was advertised at the beach bar but when we requested such the bar staff said they didn’t have Presidente beer and they only served Brahma beer which is a Brazilian beer, terrible beer, so we had to purchase our own beer at the Mall down the street and keep it in our room. Why are they advertising Presidente and not serving it? Why are you serving a Brazilian beer in the Dominican? We had also taken a trip into Sosua and the Casa Marina reef resort which was also serving Brahma beer. So it seems that all resorts under Amhsa Marina Chain are serving the same beer which they should be ashamed to serve. I had also asked the bar staff for 2 Brown Cows (cocktail drinks served with milk) and the milk was curdled.
Casino Vouchers are advertised with your package however you fail to advise that they can only be used for the Roulette & Poker tables and on the Roulette tables it can only be used for the Red & Black outside edge of the table. Which is a rip off.
We had 3 days of rain while we were there, and there isn’t enough seating under and coverage for the amount of people at the resort. One day we ran for cover to the Grill as everywhere else was packed with people, only to be told we could not stay there as they wanted to setup for dinner that night. So about 40 people had to leave.
As we were sick we went to the store in the resort for some Maalox and they were sold out of everything that would get rid of diarrhea I had enquired the price and was told that it was $16.00us for a small bottle and they didn’t know when they would be getting any more in. I did bring my own supply but due to the amount of days we were sick it was not enough to cover us for the 2 weeks. The prices they charge for any medication for upset stomach or diarrhea is unreasonable they should be ashamed of themselves playing on people that way.
I would suggest that you have a good look at the “It Zone” hotels your advertising (in our case The Grand Paradise Playa Dorada) and revisit as I would not recommend this hotel to anyone the place is in dire need of repairs, the grounds are kept nice but the rooms!!!!.
The only place that was Paradise was the beach.
Due to so many people getting sick, halfway through the flight the Air Steward and even paged to see if there was a doctor or nurse on the plane and to report to the back of the plane. Upon arrival in Toronto on Feb 17, 2012 we were detained on the plane until 11:15pm we had to remain seated so the health people could board the plane and see if it was fit to allow people off.
Which then our ride from the airport had left and then incurred a cost of $54.00 for a taxi home.
This was to be an all inclusive vacation which turned out to cost us much more than we anticipated starting with the delay at the airport, the added expense of medication & having to purchase our own liquor.

We had the worst experience, we were sick actually half the hotel was sick. our children were trying to reach us couldn't get ahold of us at all because your staff did a horrible job of transfering calls. The food cart passed our room every meal with no covers and as it was raining all the rain went on the food. The roof was made of espesdos and the rain water ran off the room into the pool. Not at all what I would expect from a 4 star hotel.

Terrible service, very rude and un helpful staff. Food was the worst we ever experienced. Veiw beautiful,ocean and beach beautiful. Very quiet and dull place to go. We left resort most days for food and fun. Would not return. Thank god we meet some very nice people which finished our week off on a good note.
