overall great experience

We stayed at the Holiday Village Golden Beach Puerto Plata Resort in the Dominican Republic from Thursday April 2nd to Thursday April 9th. We just wanted to let you know that the shows/entertainemt were dreadful and we were expecting Dominican Culture Tropical Caribbean Shows/Entertainment. And instead we only watched U.K. Based entertainment/shows. That type of entertainment we can easily see here in Toronto or in New York anytime and it's just a bus ride away, or 1 hour away by plane. We have travelled numerous times (about 5 times now) to the Dominican Republic and this is the first time that we have been very dissapointed with the entertaintment part of our vacation. We were a group of nine people and we will not be returning to this resort due to the lack (missing)of Caribean Latin entertainment that we are used to when traveling to a

first we got to our location ahead of shedule which was great, but had to wait by the pool in our jeans from noon to 3 p.m. until our room was ready, TV did not work waited 5 hours for someone to come fix it, the sofa bed for my 15 Year old daugher had no springs on it, I complained and got no response. I found the rooms small - no room to put the suit cases, and the bathrooms had no sink space to put our bathroom products; very crampt.

The service was excellent. Overall we were very happy with the room (master deluxe), worth for the money we spend. Staff were all very accommodating and always smiling. Recommended for a couple.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Village. It was great fun for the kids with the water slides, wave pool and the beach; they were never bored. Even at night there was stuff for them to do. The food was good with plenty of selection. My only complaint was that there was no food available between 3 and 6pm other than one small snack that came out at 5:30 and was gone by 5:35. After a day of fun at the beach or the pool kids are hungry, so an area where you could get burgers, hot dogs, pizza or cookies, popcorn and nachos would be great throughout the entire day(say from 1 to 6pm). Other than that I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone with kids. This was our first time going away at March break and it was worth the extra money because there were so many kids there to play with. My two boys met lots of kids with the same interests, they even had a few games of mini sticks. Thanks

This hotel is dirty and food (save for the speciatly restaurants) is horrible.

I/we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel very much. The atmosphere, the food, the cleanliness and the attention from the employees was just great. The one thing I would like different is the banking arrangement. We had to walk up to the mall outside our site to find a bank to get some cash. Then the exchange was very high.

We travelled with our twin boys (age 13) and activities were more so for younger children.

Le lendemain de notre arrivée, la chambre n'était pas encore nettoyée lorsque nous sommes revenus de la plage en début d'après-midi. Ce resort est excellent et très plaisant pour une petite famille! Les activités offertes pour les enfants sont super!

this is a older resort but well maintained and lots for the kids to do.Big clean beach good waves,the food is very good.the staff that run the kids programs are the best.

As a travelling couple we really enjoyed the location to the beach, shopping, and casino. But if asked, I would especially recommend for families as it looked like all the kids were having the best time of their lives!

We had a great stay - lovely location. Would have liked it better if we could have been in a building with other couples not with young babies. Noisy door closers that would bang late at night.

The trip was extremely well organized starting from the pick up at the airport to the drop-off at the hotel. The hotel was a bit outdated, but was good value for the price we paid. The main complaint was the mattress in the pull out couch which needed to be replaced. The mattress was so old/damaged that two people could not sleep on it without rolling to the centre and there were virtually no springs - the mattress was probably about 4 inches thick. Poor sleep = bad mood during vacation. Otherwise the resort was well maintained, had great programs and activities for kids. The food was pretty good although I was a bit dismayed by the number of birds walking all over the food at the buffet. Yuck! The a la carts were pretty good. The only real complaint was the loud party that went til 4 in the morning at the casino next to the accommodations. Not really appropriate for a family oriented resort. Otherwise the slide pool and wave pool were great, beach was nice, great lifeguards, nice weather, good drinks etc. Departure at the airport was somewhat disorganized.

We had rain every day all the time for 6 days.The 7th day we were leaving it was sunny.
This is a Family with kids hotel. I wouldn't recommend it for couples only.
The hotel was great lots to do and a great kids program. Restaurants were good.
Water slides and pools were clean and had life guards at all times.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
Had lots of fun despite the weather.
The beach was well kept and nice.
The Staff that work with the children were all British and well trained. I didn't feel at all uncomfotable signing in my children to use the kids programs. They were safe and well organized.

We enjoyed the place but the weather didn't cooperate...

My wife and I travelled here with our 5 yr. old daughter. Considering it rained steady here for 5 out of 7 days we still managed to have a fantastic time. The resort was clean and comfortable with excellent service and ammenities. The children's program was second to none! Overall, a great time considering the cool, wet weather.

Excellent value for the price. The food was second to none and on time and always hot. The rooms were more on the basic side but very comfortable none the less. The staff was very friendly and helpfull as well. Considering the value pricing this resort offers very good value for your buck.

Our experience was very good here, I took 2 kids and they loved it here, food was good and the shows were good for the kids. Beach wasn't as clean as I would have liked.

At the airport, they gave us our check in package including our towel cards, 2 room keys, and our bracelets. We were welcomed at the resort with a cold glass of punch at around noon. Even though check in is not until 3pm, our rooms were ready and off we went.

The rooms aren't new or the fanciest by any means but they were still pretty nice and clean. Maid service was excellent (I witnessed them changing the linens even though we didn't ask for it). Our rooms (16-1 & 16-2) were right across from each other (which was convenient) and we both got family rooms. The kids loved having their own separate bedroom with their own television. The bed was a king size and one of the comfiest we've had at an all inclusive.

The rooms we had were also located right near the play structure and the wavepool with the waterslides. It was only a 3 minute walk to the lobby/main buffet/activity pool as well as the beach. We loved it!

The food was EXCELLENT!! Again the best any of have ever had at an all-inclusive (including at the popular Iberostar Costa Dorada). We also dined at the Asian and Italian restaurants and both meals were mouthwatering. Not one of us were sick (except maybe from overeating...ha ha!)

The beach was beautiful. We enjoyed the waves but when the kids wanted something calmer, we just walked a few minutes down to the beach in front of the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada where is was quite calm and the kids found lots of seashells.

The pools are amazing. We spent most of the mornings at the wave pool and the waterslides - the kids had a blast. The blue slide is not for the faint at heart - really fun!!

The service was excellent. Everyone is always smiling and I didn't feel like people were only doing something for me just for a tip. I genuinely felt like my presence was appreciated and we were valued customers. Here is an example of that...

While we were there we had a tropical storm in which it poured rain for 48 hours straight (very unusual for Puerto Plata and it was beautiful the rest of the time). The water level on the grounds around the resort towards the end of the second day of rain were mind boggling (the golf course was a river!) We started to get some water in under our door of our room and the toilets stopped flushing properly (the rain would have been causing havack with their septic systems). I told the Signature Rep this and she had someone there within 20 minutes cleaning up the water and fixing the toilet issue. The next evening, front desk called just to follow-up to make sure all the issues had been addressed and that we were okay (which we were). Loved that!

The activities crew was energetic, fun, and at times downright hilarious. Kids Time and Name That Tune became an evening ritual for us. We also stayed up one night to watch the gameshow for the

The food was really good; however the rooms wasn't upto par. It would get flooded during a down pour and insects can readily enter at will.

It was a good vacation, one problem, our toilet did not work, and this was an upgraded VIP room, also it overflowed several times. We wasted almost a whole SUNNY day waiting for it to be fixed. It took 3 days before the problem was remedied and in the mean time we had to use the neighbours bathroom and the clubhouse bathroom. The staff was very nice and did try to accommodate.

The hotel is very clean and the food was simply amazing!The staff is very courteous but make sure you take advantage of the safe for all valuables. The only thing I was hoping for was a pool bar that would've made the trip complete!

This resort far exceeded our expectations! We loved it so much we're already planning on going back next year and have recommended it to all of our friends with kids. Great entertainment for the adults and the kids - you could tell that everyone loves their job.

This was a present from my daughter, her husband and my 2 grandchildren. We had an excellent time. The entertainment was great for both adults and children. The pools were excellent and the beach was phenomenal! Highly recommend it for families with small children.

The Royal suites were really nice and the food in the club house for breakfast was really good. Entertainment team were great, but too much focus on the kids though. Pool and jacuzzi in the Royal suites area was really cold.

This was our second trip to this hotel. It is excellent for families with small kids. The water slide and wave pool were a hit. I would not recommend this resort for singles or couples

We absolutely loved everything about our stay here.There was so much to do for both children and adults.We have stayed in Puerta Plata before but this hotel made our experience even better this time.The beach here was our biggest surprise.It was by far the best beach we have seen in Puerta Plata.We walked down the beach a long ways,past other resorts, and there was no comparison.The food and drink were both awesome.I would highly recommend a stay here.When we return we woul definitely look at staying here again.It lives up to its four star rating.
