 Yarmuch Family Holiday

Hotel was relatively clean and service staff do an exceptional job of maintaining inside/outside common areas.
I found hallways/stairwells/rooms to be less clean than I expected. The bathroom needed a thorough cleaning (dirt/stains on walls/doors esp in bathroom;rooms smelled musty; 1 room door had only occasionally working door locks and you had to open it a different way every time and a few times had to get room card key reprogrammed altho we were advised it was still activated. "Tipping" protocols should have been outlined prior to arrival and consistently maintained. Was disappointed that computer access was not included since we only needed it to confirm flight/seats. I'd like to recommend that you provide a 15 min computer coupon to patrons so that they can confirm departure travel without incurring more costs. Overall, we were most disappointed with the beach area as we thought we would have access to a larger beach area to walk around. Also, the ocean swimming area was more severely restricted than we anticipated. We have recommended this facility for family but suggest it is more suited to younger families. Our youngest, a few months shy of his 18th, felt too old for many of the activities and too young for the others. I also observed that many of the employess did not smile and seemed to see us tourists as a "chore"; some were downright condescending and most were stoic in demeanor. I only noticed about 3 employees who actually smiled and appeared to be happy. After dealing with a lengthy flight, the unpleasant airport/customs staff, the heat and immediate culture shock, seeing a few smiles would go a loooooong way in making this holiday a true vacation

Good Value Overall for young families

This hotel is aging, but still provides good value for a young families. Our daughter is 2.5 years and had a great time. The beach is not great, however, Doctor's Cave beach is nearby and very good. The food is pretty good and the room, while older, are kept clean. I would recommend this property with these caveats.

 Very Impressed and Happy

We just got back from the Holiday Inn last night, I am impressed. I have been to Dominican and Cuba but this was better because they have more facilities!!! Check in was great and friendly with a welcome drink, there was only a small group of people that were checking in at the same time. We had to wait till 3pm for our room but we just put our bags in the room and changed in to our bathing suites. The beach is pretty bad you can only walk up to your knees in the water because the coral reefs are very close to the shore and they cover the whole beach front, water shoes are important. There is so much on this resort, you will not go hungry that's for sure! The jerk hut, barefoot snack bar, kid snack bar has good ice cream! The bufett and three a la carts!

ROOMS: Awesome! The sheets had a high thread count and it was probably the best bed I have ever slept in on vacation to an all inclusive. The ice machine was right around the corner and the towels and facecloths were stocked in our bathroom. Never seen one bug. Never a problem with hot water but the air conditioner was a bit loud. Ask for a high floor.

DRINKS: Awesome, I am not picky, the wine was really good. We tipped a few dollars a night and after that we never had to wait in line, an extra few dollars for the bar tenders really does make a difference! The pub upstairs was really nice. The only thing I didnt like was that there was no menu for the drinks.

ENTERTAINMENT: ok, it was more of a family kid resort so the shows were mostly singing and audience participation. But it was good! I wished we could have went dancing but oh well....

FOOD: The buffet was great! There could have been more options but over all I loved everything! Really good food.
A la carts were ok, the seafood was average and we asked for lobster and they had none, but there was no sign and it was still on the menu and no one said anything till we ordered it. So we had to then take a few more minutes looking at the menu looking for something else. The Jamaican one was good, wish they would have had salt fish though. And the Italian was amazing!!! We had no issues with booking the a la carts because the hotel wasn’t full and we probably got the last pick at usually 8:30pm was when we had the reservation.

I was really impressed with the staff, they were always cleaning everything! I have never seen a cleaner resort, they have free laundry facilities but you have to buy the detergent or bring it. A lot of the women bar tenders always looked cranky but the guys were mostly all smiles and happy. YA MON!!! The market across the street was good to have but you do get bothered, we also walked down the street to Scotchies bar and restaurant which was amazing, I recommend this place. I find the prices in Jamaica are a lot more then I had expected, the rum at the market across was not as cheap as I wanted it to be but duty free at the airport on the way home was the cheapest I seen. At the hotel and on the excursions they would want to take your picture and then they wanted to sell it for 10$USD which is insane for one picture. But I was impressed with the resort and the country itself. It is kind of dangerous I think, I was told if you get a cab make sure they have a red licence plate or you might get into trouble and the police were always driving up and down the streets outside the double walled gate to this resort, definitely felt safe inside. I would definitely come back to the Holiday Inn especially because you get priority club points!
I would say just dont go to this hotel the first three weeks in March because if it is at full capacity then it would be annoying.

 2012 Vacation

Overall I would not rate this hotel a 4 star - the room was very comfortable and clean! The food -very boring, small buffet and the same thing everyday. The beach was kept clean, however there are not enough chairs for the number of people at the hotel. We reserved our chairs the night before so we didnt have to get up at 5 am to reserve. A cleaning staff could be used during the night as the hallways were sticky and messy from the day before events.

 Won't go back

The staff is very friendly but that can't make up for the other glaring problems this resort has. Our three biggest complaints: There weren't enough lounge chairs over this expansive resort. We had to place our towels on chairs at 6 am in order to even get them for the day.
Guests are responsible to go to the customer service desk in order to book a la carte dinners one at a time. Doesn't sound like a big deal but if you aren't in line by 6:30 am, you aren't getting these dinners. Muchless they will only book dinners for the next 48 hours otherwise you'll need to return subsequent times to stand in this line that is 50 or so people long. We only got one of these dinners and it was purely the efforts of our resort rep Herve.
The buffet was mediocre at best and I am by no means a picky eater. It was really nice to have an abundance of fruit at every meal, however the rest of the small buffet never really changed. Although there was a fresh pasta station the first three nights it was unmanned and unavailable the last 4 nights we were there. Disappointing considering there were no other fresh preparation items available.
This is NOT a 4 star resort and I will spend the extra money to stay somewhere else next time I visit Jamaica.

Great Vacation, with only a cpl of flaws!!

When my travelling partner and I arrived at the hotel @ 11:30 a.m. we weren't able to check in until 3 pm.. That was not indicated anywhere on the site... Our balcony door was broken, it wouldn't lock properly... Our curtains were completely and utterly dirty... The linens had stains on them, and that part was very unpleasant for me as I work in a 5* hotel! The beach was amazing though, our location (building wise #3) was ideal... In the middle of the resort, away from the sounds of local traffic and from the sounds of the front (entertainment area) which can get extremely loud @ night! The staff was phenominal as per usual... Everyone was super friendly, location hotel wise now for the night life again ideal and very convenient... All in all first time @ the Holiday Inn, second time in JA... I will definitely be returning back to the country as I'm in love with the culture, vibes and just appreciate the beauty of the island in itself, but won't choose the Holiday Inn again though, nobody compensated us when it took them almost 7 hrs to get me a mini bar fridge (empty of course) just to keep my meds refrigerated, I found that to be horrible, as I had to keep on replenishing ice to keep it cool... Last visit was @ the Riu and I think I just may stick to what I know... Hope this helps somebody!! Jamaica is gorgeous though! :) P.S. When ur a front desk agent checking guests in? If u don't have the right attitude and patience your definitely in the wrong work field!!

 Awesome Holiday Inn Experience

Overall, a wonderful experience. We are planning to go back again next year with about another 4 families. This year we went with only 1 other family but, we started telling our friends & they would like to join us. So, you will have returning customers. Good Job. Keep up the good work.

 Good Hotel for the Price

The other reviews were right. It was exactly what I expected. Good hotel for the price. The beach was crowded but beautiful, the rooms were clean but the walls are thin. Food was better than expected. Line ups at the bar and service wasn't always with a smile. Good time overall, best price to get a decent resort in Jamaica.

Decent stay for the price, but won't be returning

Overall, we have no major complaints about the resort which would be considered to ruin our vacation. The Holiday Inn staff were extremely friendly and helpful with our requests.
Common complaints at this resort had to do with the food and the beach. The food isn't terrible, but isn't great either. The buffet is okay, but the highlight food for the trip is the jerk chicken at the "Jerk Hut". The restaurant food is better than the buffet, but not spectacular by any means. In order of preference, I would say it has to be an almost tie between the Italian and Seafood with the Caribbean being a distant third. I'm a fan of curry goat and was very disappointed by the offering at the Caribbean restaurant (both meat quality and taste). As a note, while the restaurants are located on the resort, they are run by a different company. You can definitely tell a difference in morale and motivation in the restaurants. Budget about 1.5 hours for a meal and the waiting staff often got drink orders wrong. The Italian restaurant staff is definitely better, but still not up to the level of service on the rest of the resort.
The beach was about 12 feet deep at most points and the sand was grainy. In most of the allowable swimming areas you can get about waist deep until you hit the reef area (which you aren't permitted to enter). The East Beach has the best sand quality, but also has the most seaweed, the highest number of sea urchins, isn't patrolled and is the furthest from any bar/food.
There aren't a whole lot of "touristy" things to see within a reasonable distance: Dunn's Falls are about a 3 hr bus ride (round trip) for 45 min at the falls. The "Hip Strip" in Montego Bay isn't bad for a quick excursion/walk around, but you can get the same prices if not better right across the street from the resort.

Overall, we are pretty happy with our stay, but as this was our first Caribbean trip, we want to try something else next time. (likely another island)

 Where employees never ever smile!

We had stayed here before but this time not one person was friendly at all! We had booked a non smoking room on the ground floor and were given a smoking room not on a ground floor - then they changed us to a ground floor smoking room - we have two small children --- Since we had stayed here before I considered this not really GREAT - plus the hotel was over booked with a teachers conference for two days and they did not have the staff to deal with all of the people.

 Great value for money

Good clean resort. Clean rooms, small bathroom. Buffet selection ok. Itialian restaurant very good, others so-so. Good entertainment. Staff helpful (just ask). Pool was great for kids and adults. Adults only section for those those not wanting to be around others. Very good 3-4 star resort. Would recommend, just don't expect something you are not paying for.

 Holiday Sunspree

This is the second time I stayed at the Holiday Inn and will not do so again. The service has gone down since my last trip and I found to much waiting around for service. Also the beaches for swimming are terrible the water is so shallow and to many dangerous water life creatures that are not raked or removed for visitors safety. Saw a young girl step on a sea urchin and also 2 other guest who found them and removed them, themselves for safety.
