Ok resort.very poor comunication with Sunwing Staff.
Mostly pleasant staff

We expected a lot from this trip as we saved long and hard for it. The country is beautiful, Full of lush vegetation, beautiful culture and very relaxed. Only BIG problem is that the Riu chain is stuck on sPreading their Spanish influence and doesn't let the Jamaican culture thrive in Their resorts. Entertainment spoke Spanish, lots of Spanish dishes...if we wanted more of a Spanish experience we would've gone else where. Toughest problem is that inside the resort we did NOT feel like we were in Jamaica :-(

FROM THE MOMENT WE ARRIVED, MY FAMILY AND I WERE VERY IMPRESSED WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL RESORT, SPECIFICALLY THE STAFF WERE JUST AMAZING, THE ROOMS WERE ALWAYS CLEANED AND REPLENISHED ON A DAILY BASIS, NICE BEACH AND THE SERVICE WAS NOT GOOD BUT GREAT..THE ANIMATORS WERE CONSTANTLY ENTERTAINING FROM MORNING TO LATE EVENING.. I HAVE BEEN IN THE BUSINESS OF CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR MORE THAN 35 YEARS AND I AM HAPPY TO TELL YOU I WAS EXTREMELY IMPRESSED WITH THE SERVICE IN WHICH THE STAFF MEMEBERS HAVE PROVIDED. THEY DEFINITLEY HAVE EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS..BRAVO TO YOU ALL. P.S. ONE OF MY BEST VACATIONS EVER.

I just returned from 2 weeks at the Riu Ocho Rios. We enjoyed our stay and the hotel was nice, we got upgraded to a junior suite which was nice. Overall we had a nice stay but there are 2 complaints I have about the hotel as follows:

We did not have hot water for 3 days which was a real pain as you had to have a cold shower in order to get ready for dinner after a day at the beach. Not the end of the world but still inconvenient.

Worse than the water was the noise at night, we had several sleepless nights due to the rowdiness of the guests in the hotel. We were on the quiet side supposedly of the hotel and yet if people were on our side of the hotel yelling and just plain being loud we could hear all this noise even though we were on the 4th floor of the hotel. We had to call security one night 3 times and nothing was done about the noise. It was 2:30am and people were just drunk and partying which is understandable but do this at the bars or at the disco not near the rooms where people are trying to sleep. Of course the noise is not the hotel's fault but I do fault them on having to call them 3 times in one night to get security to come and tell the people making the noise to move to the bar area or to the disco if they wanted to continue to party well into the night.

We had early morning excursions and were kept up most of the night due to all the noise. The hotel should enforce the no noise after 11pm in areas close to the rooms so that those of us who wanted to sleep could actually get a decent night's sleep. If this had happened only 1 night, no big deal but the noise was almost every night so either the rooms ned to be better sound proofed to keep out the sound or they need to make sure that the partying stays in the bar areas away from the guest rooms.

I must say everything else at the hotel was great, the staff was fantastic especialy the entertainment crew, they were awesome! The food was good no complaints there.

So overall we loved Jamaica and the people and the hotel was pretty good overall but due to the noise I would not return to this hotel. I would definitely return to Jamaica but I would stay somewhere where you can party and have a blast but when you go to your room to sleep I expect it to be quiet in those areas.

The food, the beer, the rum, the staff and activities available were great. A beautiful beach, warm water and clean room as expected. Great company being with family and friends. The only negatives were a very noisy room fridge that went unaddressed by the hotel, even after several phone calls. We ended up unplugging it at night and back in in the morning. The hot water was down a couple of times, but, with the rest of the goods, overall, an EXCELLENT experiance.

The beach is very good with warm water, fine sand and lots of fish to see while snorkeling. The hotel layout makes the travel to the beach a short walk, especially good for families with young children.
We visited the resort two times, and the food was good both times.

Not a bad place, but for the money, I'd rather go to a great resort in Cuba or DR.

Our trip to Ocho Rios was great. I didn't like the long bus ride from the airport to the hotel but who would. I also felt that the disco was disgusting. It was small and smelly.
The food and the hotel in general was good and to the 5 star standards. Good hotel and for the people who are picky you should choose this one.

Amazing hotel, great staff. Always entertaining and friendly. Great food, jerk chicken in the beach was awesome! Beach was beautiful, pool was always clean and very active. Rooms were kept tidy and bar always stocked.

I would definitely return to his resort. The staff was amazing, the food great! Overall experience WONDERFUL!!! Will most certainly return to this resort! We had a great holiday!

Great staff /food and water activities

My experience at this hotel was great. The staff, food, beach and room were amazing. I travelled with my 9 year old son and we both really enjoyed our time there. The afternoon children's soccer game, fresh coconut water on the beach and the fresh roti are things that you shouldn't miss. A lot of people commented on the Jerk Hut on the beach but for me it just wasn't spicy enough. I expected true jerk but felt like I just got grilled chicken. Every one else really enjoyed it as there were line-ups every lunch time. Over all this was a fantastic trip...would definitely return to the Riu in Ocho Rios.

Our trip to the RIU in Ochos Rios, Jamaica was absolutely wonderful. We traveled during March break (I am a teacher so this is my only option) The resort was understandably busy BUT the staff at the resort were so accomodating and fun to be around. Honourable mention to the entertainment staff and bar staff!! Amazing selection for food and drink and activities on the resort. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Food quality could be improved. Huge buffet,many choices.

This is the first time travelling to Jamaica and it will not be our last.

This resort was a very nice place to stay. The staff were extremely courteous at all times. The entertainment was always well worth seeing. We stayed in a junior suite which was very clean at check-in and stayed that way throughout our stay. We always left tips for the maid and even though we forgot one morning due to an early trip, the room was still cleaned the way it should be. The pools were always clean and on the deluxe side, there were generally some chairs available if you didn`t get there too late.
We went on three excursions.
1) Blue Mountain Bicycle Tour (Awesome)
2) 9 Mile Tour ( Bob Marleys' birth place ) Awesome
3) Dunns River Falls (Awesome)
The reason these were so good was because during the whole time, your guides is constantly giving interesting information about Jamaican History and all about the land itself. If you take the 9 Mile tour, make sure you get on the ZION bus; you won`t believe how much fun you will have. To us, there were only two things that could be better.
1) The shopping trip to Ocho Rios was only two hours long. Even though they take you to a specific area to shop; there are so many little shops, that two hours was definitely not enough time. A minimum of three hours would have been much better.
2) Being there for two weeks, the limited number of restaurants go kind of boring. Two of the restaurants we need to book for (Monteray & Mammy Bay) were actually buffet style. Not too appetizing when the alternative is a
buffet.
Other than that, it was a great trip. I would recommend it.

Bel hôtel et très propre. Personnel super sympa et très bon service. Plage petite et beaucoup d'algues mais endroit magnifique pour faire du snorkling. En après-midi, endroit très venteux. Buffet assez varié, du choix pour tous les goûts. Resto à la carte, impossible de réserver si vous y êtes pour une seule semaine. File d'attente interminable pour la réservation. Beaucoup de chaises à la plage, impossible d'en manquer. Par contre, à la piscine les gens les réservent très tôt le matin. Si vous désirez marcher, le site est très petit et n'est pas l'endroit approprié. Ne pas acheter vos souvenirs dans les boutiques de l'hôtel...des marchands viennent durant la semaine et à l'aéroport de Montego Bay vous aurez plus de choix et de meilleurs prix. N'oubliez pas d'aller visiter Dunn's River Falls, à 10 minutes de l'hôtel. Ça à en vaut le déplacement.Hôtel côté 1 pour la famille mais seulement pour les enfants de 4ans et moins. Rien d'approprié pour les plus vieux (7-12 ans).

Bel hôtel mais les Jamaïcains ne sont pas très souriants. Au buffet, tous est très salé ou trop sucré. Les boissons trop sucrées. Pas de musique du pays soit le jour ou en soirée. Nous avons eu seulement un groupe "live" le samedi soir.Plage très courte donc on ne peut marcher longtemps. Beaucoup de caillou lorsque nous allons nous baigner. Personnellement, cet hôtel ne vaut pas un 5 étoiles.

Le RIU Ocho Rios est surement l'enfant pauvre des RIU. Je m'attendais à plus d'un RIU 5*. Ce n'est pas un 5* mais plutôt 3 1/2*. Personnel pas très souriant. Accueuil à l'arrivée très ordinaire. Pour le prix que nous avons payé, j'aurais eu plus à Cuba ou République Dominicaine. Toute la semaine il y a manqué de papier à main dans les toilettes (surtout celle près de la plage). Le seul endroit où j'ai pu mangé des crevettes fut le restaurant de Steak (le Mama Bee). Au buffet, la seule fois où j'ai vu des crevettes fut dans une paëlla. Nous avons même eu droit à un souper de hot-dog et humberger (wow...). Comme vous devinez, je ne recommanderai pas cet endroit à mes amis... mais peut-être sommes nous tombé sur une mauvaise semaine. Nous étions 4 adultes qui voyageons beaucoup et nous avons tous eu la même opinion. Mon seul côté positif est pour les animateurs qui sont tous très gentils, drôles et sympathiques. Alors voilà ! c'est notre perception, il ne reste qu'à vous à faire la vôtre !

This was our 9th all-inclusive resort stay. A previous stay at a RIU in Mexico was exceptional. This one was a disappointment. It is good but nothing more than good. In our assessment, it barely warrants a 4 star rating.

I have been to several resorts before and I have no negative things to say about this resort. The food was great, the staff was friendly, and the resort itself was very clean. We are planning on returning for our next vacation.

Our overall experience with the hotel was as we expected or better, very good vacation. Our only bad experience was with the flights. My wife lost some jewlery from her checked baggage on the way down, and on the return trip both our bags were turned upside down and my shaving kit and her makeup bag were just dumped out and left like that. Not sure who to blame, baggage handlers snooping or security looking for a bonus.

Great value for the price we paid. The staff (front desk, maid service, food services and entertainment staff) was always smiling and happy doing their jobs. The hotel was clean and rooms are in good shape. Some repairs are required on the stairways to the beach - many of the tiles are broken and should be replaced. The two-man reggie band was excellent - they should play more often at night (from 8pm to 11pm) in a location that would allow for more people to dance. We have been to several resorts in Jamiaca and the Riu is one of the best. You cannot go wrong with a Riu hotel.

Hotel was good and clean , facilities really good , Food was good , lots of variety. the Asian a la carte was a write off , the beach was really good , Yes i will go back in a heartbeat,, Really good Resort

unfortunatly I cannot comment on the Riu Ocho Rios which I had booked to go to .this is because my airline carrier advised me at the Montego bay airport that there was a problem and that I would be staying at the Grand Paladium in Lucia Jamaica.it had small man made beach area but the resort was clen ,very large and good food
