Another excellent stay
This was our third stay this year at the Adults only resort RIU Palace Macao (March, April & June). Our room was located on the 3rdd floor, it was nice & clean. We booked an upgraded room (Superior Junior suite) and were very happy being on the pools/ocean side. Wi-Fi is free and works fine in your room. We had a king size bed which we found comfortable. There is lots of drawers/storage space. There is a ceiling fan above the bed which we enjoyed as the AC this time was not as powerful. The patio door curtains are opaque. Balconies on the third floor are much smaller than other lower floors. It was private 2 chairs a small table & a small drying rack. The balconies have a cement wall (approx. 6.5 feet high) on each side that prevents you from looking at the neighbours balconies. Our maid service was excellent. We always had our fridge (beers, 500 ml soft drinks & 1.5 L water bottle) & bathroom towels/items... replenished when needed. There is also 4 bottles of different alcohol types (Gin, Tequila, Rum & Vodka) with a measuring dispenser. In the washroom you have a very spacious walk-in shower with the option of a rain forest flow or hand held shower head. There are two sinks. In the closet, there are many wood hangers (approx. 20). The free digital safe is located at the bottom of the closet (approx. 6 inches from the floor). The food was very good at all the locations we ate: Buffet (main building for breakfast & dinner. For lunch the buffet is served in a separate building away from the main building (between the night À la Carte restaurants (Italian & Grill specialities)). All the buffet style restaurants have a wide variety of meats, fish, pastas, cold cuts, breads, cheeses, salads, sushi's, fresh fruits/vegetables, jams, nutella, ice cream, yogurts, deserts, condiments, syrups, etc...). The food at the four À la Carte restaurants (No reservation needed) was very good. The service at the buffets & À la Carte restaurants was excellent. For a little extra sweet go to the Capuchino Café. During the day you can get small sandwiches/wraps with many different pastries and different flavoured coffees/Teas are served. After dinner the Capuchino Café offers different flavoured coffees/Teas & many types of delicious deserts. The service at all the bars was excellent. The 3 pools were kept clean and the water was clear throughout the whole day. All public washrooms we used were kept clean. For the beautiful large beach area you have plenty of lounge chairs scattered between the many palm trees (no palapas). There was no towel game to reserve a lounge chair early in the morning. No matter at what time you came to the beach there was always free lounge chairs. There is an interlock pathway (approx. 100 feet from the ocean) connecting the 4 beachfront RIU hotels (Palace Punta Cana, Bambu, Palace Macao & Palace Bavaro). The location of the Riu Palace Macao is ideal for beach walkers. You can walk either way (East/West) for very long distances. This time there was lots of algae's. But we still found the Beach amazing, white sand and amazing blueish/green ocean water. For the gym & Spa services you must walk to the Palace Bavaro (approx. 10 min. walk). The guests were mostly from USA, Canada & Europe. This hotel is quiet, no loud music/noise at night. The average age of the guests was younger this time 45 years. The hard working hotel personnel are ALL wonderful, friendly & give you an excellent service with a smile from your check-in (Ana Maria for us) to your check-out. My spouse and I will definitely return to the RIU Palace Macao resort as we had another very relaxing vacation at this small Adult only resort.

Pack your patience if you go to this hotel chain!
Firstly, the hotel is older and in need of updating although it was clean enough. The a la carte restaurants had amazing food and did not disappoint. The buffets were sub par with little to no variety. The worst service was as the Jasmine restaurant. The servers are extremely slow and rarely acknowledge you. On New Year's Eve, we did not have a choice but to book at this restaurant. Although we had reservations, the staff seated on a first come first serve basis and when questioned, were very rud, snapped at you and then ignored you. I asked the three hostess' names who were disinterested in assisting and at fist they lied and told me false names, then turned their name tags around so you could not see them or took them off altogether. Yurianny attempted to conceal her name, but was too late. She did gather all the staff to alert them and point me out which was unacceptably rude. The second hostess told me her name was Maria. Her name was actually Yasanfry. The third hostess told me her name was Nicole and it was actually Ludy. Obviously these three ladies knew they were rude and attempted to hide their identities. I did put in a complaint but the hotel manager did not reach out to discuss the poor service and rudeness of these three individuals. Totally unacceptable!! In addition they regularly ran out of food and drinks. The grounds are beautiful but you better pack your patience if you go to this hotel.

clinic - scam---> they speak 80% Spanish, and use iphone to translate it in English. And then they send you bill to your room, and harass you at middle of night to pay the bills. There is no place to complain. Zero customer service. their Motto is: customer and clients who haas spent 6 to 8K dollars to come visit their resort, are always wrong and we can squeeze more money out of them. Towel Station ==> only 1 located at main pool -- which is 10 minutes walk to water park for kids. Very inconvenience. as it closes at 5 p.m. the one at.beach never seen it open either. Beautiful Lobby - but no garbage stations Arrival: at arrival on our first day, there was no on at reception. very confusing. the people at entrance sent us to right, and the other party to left. at right where it says express "check in" there was no one to receive. The people who were guided to go left, also joined us, saying the people at other side directed us here. All of us were confused till after sometime, someone finally shows up. ==> for couples it may be okay resort, but for people with kids, this place is no good. ==> everything is sold in U.S. dollars rather than in their local currency. items sold outside are so much cheaper than the hotel. ==> coconut is sold for $5 U.S by the pool. but outside it is less than a $1 U.S. ==> people at reception are not well trained, their information don't match from person to person. I have been to Dominican Republic before. first time was so amazing at another resort, there was no availability there, else i wouldn't have to this location.

Overall a good resort for a family vacation!
Reviews du Barcelo Bavaro Palace Overall it was very good! The resort is HUGE, the grounds were beautifully kept, one bigger pool split in two in the main section, where the restaurants are located, shops, casino, a bowling alley too. The adult section is to the left of the resort. There is a family areas around building 7 with a kids pool. There is a pirate ship and wave pool too, that I believe you get access to for 1 day if you have kids. The mini-putt is free until 6pm. There is a golf course and club house near building 8. Room: We had a junior suite in building 3, on the top floor, with a jacuzzi on the terrace. We ended up with an ocean view which was a bonus! We had asked for a king bed but got two separate beds. We were offered to switch on day 2 but we would loose our ocean view so we said no. They filled the mini fridge with pop, water and beer on the daily. Changed the towels and the sheets every 3 days. Downsides: the tv didn't have many options on channels, and no guide option, the walk in shower didn't have a door to close, so water would splatter on the floor, there seems to never be a fan in the bathrooms down south which is annoying, and the safe had numbers that didn't work. Food: there are two buffets, but both are next to each other which is odd to me, and they overlap on time so they open a door in between them and you can walk through, however both offer the same options. The hours were a little odd.. sometimes they were both closed so the only option open was the sports bar which was limited. The food was overall pretty decent. Service was slow, as in bringing water or drinks, and flipping tables between guests. We had reservations to the Steakhouse, the Seafood, Mediterranean, Mexican and Japanese restaurant. Japanese was the best! With the teppanyaki tables, the service and food was great. Seafood was disappointing. The Mediterranean restaurant is in the adult section and it was delicious. For lunch you can go there too, but if they catch you they will ask you for 5$ extra per person since it should be guests if the adults only. Bars: not as many as we would have expected for such a big resort and the pool ones would close at 6. Service was a little slow. There is an adult pool/bar which had better service. It's smaller and they were quicker. Beach was amazing! They section off where you can swim but it's not at all crowded given the size of the resort. Not too many weeds either. Some of our group did windsurfing and loved it. Others would walked for hours on either side of the resort. But when you get off the resort people will try and sell you things. There weren't any on the resort. We didn't really have to worry to get chairs… but the later you get to the beach the busier it gets. Shows: The shows were at 10pm. They were fun, the circus one was the best. There was a Fantasy/Disney show one night, which was super cute for kids but also a 10pm showing. They should offer it during the day or earlier for the kids. You get cards for towels that you trade in for towels and can exchange them. We would leave them on our chairs with our sunscreen and hats when went for a walk or to eat, and didn't have problems all week. However someone took our towels on the last day. We ended up having to go to reception and explain the situation because we didn't want to get charged 20$ per towel. They ended up giving us more cards but were adamant they would charge us if we lost those ones. We rented cabanas for 15$ a day at the adult pool, highly recommended! Quiet and in the shade. And there are chairs too if you don't rent the cabana. Right next to the pool and bar. I went to the spa and got a relaxation massage. If you book a spa appointment within your first 48h you get 40% off. So it was 84$ instead of 140$ for 50 mins. And you get access to their saunas and pool specifically for the spa for 1 hour before or after. Totally worth it! We did the escape room as a group on site. It was 30$ per person which I found expensive. But we had a good time. Some of the group took a taxi into town to buy wine and chips. Some went on excursions and said it went well and it was fun. Some downsides… no room service included, except for coffee, or it was for a fee. We found that very odd. No snacks left in the rooms either or available elsewhere on the resort. Checkout was at 12 but we didn't leave until 6pm… which was fine, they kept our luggage in a locked room, but the facilities room they offered didn't have a hair dryer or plugs for a hair dryer, only 3 showers too and the lockers didn't work. Again… just odd. It's a very very big resorts, so lots of people and far to walk between buildings and restaurants. There is a little train service which was useful as our group was scattered between all the buildings. For a group we were expecting to be put closer together.

The neglect of the Riu Republica is obvious
I was quite disappointed with my visit to the Riu Republica this time. I last went in Feb 2017 when it was practically brand. It's only been 7 years and the neglect is very obvious. I attached photos from our room. The electrical plugs in the room (and I was told, throughout the resort) were horrible! I was lucky that the plug for my CPAP machine (used for sleeping) worked after fiddling and fiddling with it. I had called down to request assistance 3 times. When they didn't come (they thought I was calling about the ice machine!), I hung up. I also called for the bathroom plug which wouldn't hold a charge. Their resolution was to put an elastic band around the faceplate to hold the plug into the socket (see photo). It didn't work. The bed and bathrooms had the barest of necessities. I had to ask for additional pillows which were practically the size of postage stamps! Despite requesting a sheet change in the manner the hotel requested (leave the sheet change card on the bed), our sheets were not changed. I had to ask that it be done by writing a note in Spanish. Also, there were no face cloths. I had to call down for them and when they were soiled and removed during cleaning the next day, new face cloths were not left. I, again, wrote a note to the room attendant in Spanish to leave face cloths but none were left. I had to call down to the desk. We were missing a floor/shower towel on one occasion and had to use one (of two) of our hand towels. There was also missing furniture. The food was very good; large selection, fresh produce, well prepared (most of the time). There was definitely something for everyone. The ice-based cocktails were awful. It seemed that no matter what you ordered, it was made with one of three slushie mixes. Yuck! And, no two were the same. The general cleanliness of the hotel has also declined. The people/staff were, as always, very polite. I honestly think they're doing the best that they can with what they've been provided by corporate.

Bahia Principe Grand, great vacation!
This is the second time we are at a Bahia hotel in Punta Cana, we were in Bahia Ambar in 2017. This time we liked it better, mainly because of the beach, more accessible, in Ambar we had to reserve chairs at 6 am. The beach is a little overcrowded but there is enough space. One or two days some algae were brought by the sea but only 50 meters away the water is clean. The hotel starts getting old, needs some renovation but it is no problem for us. Usually the renovation leads to a price increase….The site is very big but there is a regular train system and there is no problem moving around. The room is clean, room service is impeccable, regular change of towels and constant supply of water and beverages in the fridge. Food in the buffet is very good, I think there is food for any taste. A lot of seafood, fish. There is a theme every day, Mexican Dominican, Spanish, American, Asian, Gala…There are 11 restaurants à la carte. We liked a lot the Indian, Mediterranean El Olivo, Brazilian, Garden Grill, Japanese and Greek. The Indian was probably the biggest surprise, great food! The only thing is that there are two almost identical Japanese restaurants in the two lobbies of the hotel with similar names, Mikado and Maiko and a lot of people missed their reservation because they went to the wrong restaurant, information you should get at the welcome meetings… The tour operator representative Ernesto was trying so hard to sell excursions that he didn't give any information unless asked. Like where do you get the beach towels, there is only one place in the complex. This is the reason many people don't go to these meetings which, like everywhere, are a place to sell activities. … The animation has its ups and downs, the more traditional programs at the theatre were better but the disco at the lobby was probably the highlight. We stayed two weeks and had a great time. We have stayed in more expensive hotels in Punta Cana but we liked this hotel the most.
