Checkin and checkout was quick still had to stand in line as did check in day before on app. Three days no hot water finally they fixed it after second complaint. Had to call for water twice but then realized they deliver later in the day. The food was disappointing at the a la cartes some didn't look fresh and lacked flavours plus not hot. The alcoholic drinks you had to request higher brands or didn't taste very good. The pool was always packed never was able to get a chair so we hung out on the beach lots of loungers and in the sun or shade which was great. Great evening entertainment at the theatre but not nearly enough seating had to stand half the time. Great lobby bar service and entertainment and always was able to get a seat. Towels had to call for the second day always bath towels short on hand towels and the towels are old need new ones. Was here 9 years ago was way better plus rooms need a update. [Details]

The strong points
Food was great. We ate at all the restaurants and the buffet and found them all to be great. There was a wide variety. Appetizer bar, fruit & dessert, main entrees & and always a specialty meat or fish station. food was hot.
The weak points
If I had to say there was a weak point I would say it is need of an upgrade. The other is the hotel is quite a ways to the beach. If you had mobility issues this might be a problem.
Sanitary measures (Covid-19)
There was hand sanitizer at all entrances to restaurants.

Great Week!
Tracy, Vancouver, BC
2023-03-15
Just got back from a lovely week at Riu Jalisco. Beautiful grounds, lovely pool, and great beach. All very walkable.
The rooms are fine. Nothing too special, however it was clean and a fine place to lay your head at night. It is true the building is noisy... you can hear the doors closing all through the complex, so when the maids are going in and out, there is a constant slamming. Take earplugs, or like me, wear headphones and listen to some spotify sleep sounds! Bad acoustics, for sure.
Food was good. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies on the buffet, always get something good to eat. The Steak restaurant and the Italian a la carte were great, and we had no issues getting a table each night.
By far the best part of the week was the service! Everyone worked very, very hard, always with a smile and friendly recognition. Romiro at the mid-bar by the stage was phenomenal, and took care of us so well. In the lobby bar, Shirley (Shelly? Her actual name started Asa something.... but I was too blind to catch it, so she told us to call her Shirley), was also very special. A tip, a smile, and some patience go a really long way in the service industry, especially when people are understaffed and busy!
Quite a few large groups arrived the day before we left, they were loud and not very consciencious of how imposing they were at the pool and on the beach but that can happen anywhere!
For the price we paid, I would definately recommend. It was a great deal for a week of fun in the sun! [Details]

The resort was wonderful! We had the best of time. Food and the grounds were beyond my expectations. The beach was also really really nice! We enjoyed the pools and the weather was the best I've ever had on a tropical trip. The rooms are a bit tired but the set-up of two queens and a twin was perfect for our family. Bathroom set-up was a bit difficult with teenagers but we made it work. [Details]

Pleasant Stay at Riu Jalisco
journey-jenny, Whitby, ON
2023-01-31
Overall enjoyed my stay at the Riu Jalisco. Many varied food options, preferred the a la cartes to the buffet. The Mexican restaurant was fabulous, as was the Steakhouse and the Italian. Found the food to be very salty at the Dragon a la carte (literally could not even eat the noodles and meats). Pools crowded and quite cool temps. Appreciated the opportunity to use facilities at the Riu Vallarta ~ so many more pools and easy to find a lounger in a quiet shady area. Evening shows were entertaining, the ABBA show and the Michael Jackson were great. The neon party was fun as well. Beach was okay, steep dropoff a few feet in and lots of strong waves. Red flag or yellow flag everyday, also purple flag (indicating jellyfish). Housekeeping was hit and miss. Three days did not have any housekeeping at all, returning to my room around 5pm and nobody had come yet to tidy (not a problem as I had plenty of towels). Beds comfortable, AC effective, mini fridge worked well but was noisy. Next trip to Nuevo Vallarta I will likely choose the Riu Vallarta or the Palace Pacifico ~ more pool options are important to me and I prefer having a quiet place to lounge. [Details]

Overall good experience. However, at our last breakfast, we saw how the coffee cups were cleaned and could not believe it!! All dirty dishes were brought to a cart where food and coffee were dumped out. Coffee cups were then put into a mid sized container (assuming it had water in it), then pulled right out and wiped dry with a blue rag that had just been used to wipe tables and chair seats. Saucers were just wiped clean (no water) with same rag - not even put into the water. We saw how these same 'cleaned' cups and saucers were then used again. Dirty dishes were hauled back from tables and cutlery (assuming that may not have been used at a table) was put into the 'clean' cutlery area - but had all been carried back together with other dirty dishes. This was discusting to see / know, even at the best of times, but with just going through COVID, totally not acceptable!!!!! And hard to believe, but we saw it done as a regular thing in that area of the restaurant, so can only guess what else is going on where we can't observe. Can't help but wonder about other cleaning processes too. ie cups in the rooms - were they exchanged for clean ones or just wiped with rags used to clean sinks, toilets???? [Details]

Staff was friendly most of the time, but once you get there you have no idea where is everything, so you'll need to figure it out through the app. Food was ok, there were 5 restaurants with 80% the same food. Nice walking area. Also, if you coming to any RIU, with your braclet you can go to other RIU(Vallarta and Palace)- walk along the beach and check out their lunch and accommodations. Now to negative sides and why I'm not coming back. We stayed in 2 diffeent rooms . Had to move from first one because on the 3rd day, we woke up at 6am coz our next door neighbor was lodly coughing and talking to his multiple friends saying that he has COVID. When we went to reception and let them know, they didnt care and we almoust had to fight to get different room, which took them half of day to make happen. First and second room had mold and didn't feel clean. Second room had blowdryer covered with mold, shower head had mold, and some parts of door frames, its was disgusting. And that's the room they were preparing half of the day... Our documents were is safe, which was in bathroom area, and in 3 days they warped and punched numbers became rusty, orangy looking... so what do you know?! Safe had holes in the bottom, but it was covered with piece of material, so we didnt see it. I can't believe it. Also to note, if room has mold, you can only imagine how A/C coil looks and what kind of air you breath. If your health important to you, avoid this place at all cost! Hope this helps some of you. Nice hotel, clean, nice rooms. Good service, good food and drinks. Approximately 25 minutes from the airport and 40 minutes from the Malecon and downtown PV. Taxi is 299 pesos or 30$ USD to downtown. Masks were worn and sanitary measures were respected by staff. Nice beach, no seaweed or jelly fish. Plenty of chairs. A la cartes are buffet style. We found the main buffet better. We were told no reservations needed for any a la carte, we tried all week to get into the steak house. We waited in line for about 35 minutes on our last night to find that we needed a reservation. Noise from outside can be heard in room usually quiets down around 11. Kid friendly place with a pool play park and kid's club. Pool entertainment lacking variety. There really should be an adult pool by the pool bar. The entertainment staff did the same things everyday, mainly getting patrons to do a sexy dance. Not very kid appropriate. Great vacation after a long time of waiting. [Details]

The Riu Jalisco was an excellent hotel overall. The food was excellent, grounds pristine, service really really good..the only issue I would say is that the bathroom doors were a bit broken and didn't close in the lobby upstairs and the beach bathroom.as well. This is an easy fix. The rooms were super clean as well as the entire resort. I would definitely recommend this resort. Excellent value for the $$. [Details]

Over all this is a good family resort but is smaller than what we are used to. While the staff did an excellent job of cleaning, the resort is like a poor family member. The buildings are older and becoming run down, with elevator doors not closing properly, loose tiles etc.The beach and pool are excellent with lots of shade and good quality lounge chairs. The entertainment is great everywhere. We had a group of 11 with kids aged 7-14 and all had a great time. The younger ones really enjoyed the Riu Land at night on stage. The food and alcohol quality was good except for vegetarians in the group and there was no kids section in the buffet other than at lunch. The only problems we ran into was our 3 rooms were not together at check in but the front desk helped to get us in the same wing and floor at least. The other problem was that since our flight out wasn't till evening I enquired the day before we left about a late check out at the front desk. I was told there would not be a problem as long as I did it before 7 pm. I returned within the time but was told by Noemi Montes that there was nothing she could do and did not offer any other options and that she was in charge that evening. I returned the next morning and Armando restored my faith in the Riu chain. He was very professional and offered an hour extention and a room to shower if we wanted one before our flight. While we did not take him up on the offer of a room to shower, Armando show a high level of customer service skill that should be acknowledged. He is definitely a plus for the company! Hats off to all of the rest of staff in all areas. [Details]

Trust me and stay elsewhere!!! This place isn't worth it unless you like to be treated awful, unless you like poop daily in your pool and unless you like to be treated like your money and your experience there doesn't matter. I cannot begin to tell you how awful this experience was for us. We booked our Wedding and Honeymoon here. We brought 16 guests (2 stayed at the Palace for cheaper) and half of us stayed for two weeks. We were treated so poorly, we were not welcomed as VIP guests and we were given a room with two beds pushed together when a king bed was requested. My poor husband fell in between the crack in the middle of the night. And although they had a kids pool and splash park they still allowed children to swim in the main pool. They were jumping and splashing pool water in everyone's drinks which is gross as is but then they had kids pooping in the pool and adults puking. This happened at least 5 times making it close down for 2-4 hours each time and when brought up to the General Manager his response was "Oh well, locals first and this is how they want it". I did cancel the wedding portion there as they wanted to charge a lot more than what it was worth so we had the wedding off site at an amazing restaurant but we were still honeymooners there and still did bring all these guests. There was no thank you, there was no special treatment and with all the awful things happening, there was no compensation. I would NEVER go back and I am hesitant to ever go to another Riu. 2 Double Beds pushed together for wedding/honeymoon couple No VIP treatment when bringing group and when there as honeymooners Kids pooping in pools daily GM rude, racist and prejudice No room service No change in food options Cockroaches Everywhere Limited Wi-Fi Service Bartenders only paid attention to the locals and if we were not tipping larger than 200 pesos every time they didn't care. In fact when tipping 20 to get attention for a SINGLE drink they said "not for that little" AC was not very cold at all [Details]

Overall a lovely resort. I think that the Riu jalisco is due for a room update. We were surprised at how dated the rooms were. Quite disappointed in the hotel. Would be nice if the hotel would make an area for handi cap seating in the restaurants. A sign placed on a table with access would be great. The outdoor washrooms need to have a handicap button so they can access the facilities themselves. There was splintering paint on the waterslide that someone ended up getting cut with. They did tape it off. The pool with the slide was the reason we chose this Riu. The food was plentiful and good variety. Enjoy that they really are all inclusive. That includes alcohol. Would be nice if the lounge chairs around the pool would be wiped down daily to remove the bird droppings. A beautiful resort and well kept surrounds. Overall a very pleasant experience. [Details]

Nice hotel, the "family room" is not a junior suite, just a room with 2 doubles pushed together and an old pull out couch. Other resorts actually have way nicer Junior Suites. Food was awesome, although even the "al a cartes" are all still buffet except for the Steakhouse, which I would skip as the quality of the steak was not great. Buffets sure get old after 2 or 3 days. Staff were amazing, the rooms were spotless, the hallways and common areas were constantly being swept and mopped. Bar staff was good, but the walk up pool bar had a continuous lineup, needed an extra bartender or two, considering the resort was full full. As mentioned by another patron, the day the resort was full to almost over capacity with 7 buses arriving from inland, a pipe burst and there was NO water to the resort from 11 pm to 3 pm the next day. It was almost a Bio Hazard situation. The disappointing thing was we got no word or explanation or apology from the resort management. It would have been nice to have heard something from the hotel, but instead were told it will be fixed in two hours and then 4 hours and then 6 hours. The front desk staff actually stopped answering the phones. It was disgusting, BUT once the water pipe was fixed, the staff worked very hard to get everything cleaned up and smelling better again. I would recommend, considering it is Mexico, there was nothing wrong with the resort, just lower your expectations a WEE bit on the room size and bed and then have a blast. Good value for the money you spend. [Details]

The rooms are fine. Nothing too special, however it was clean and a fine place to lay your head at night.
[Details]
Beautiful Week
would definitely return. [Details]
Kids first timers
The rooms are a bit tired but the set-up of two queens and a twin was perfect for our family. Bathroom set-up was a bit difficult with teenagers but we made it work. [Details]

Pleasant Stay at Riu Jalisco
Riu Jalisco
This was discusting to see / know, even at the best of times, but with just going through COVID, totally not acceptable!!!!! And hard to believe, but we saw it done as a regular thing in that area of the restaurant, so can only guess what else is going on where we can't observe.
Can't help but wonder about other cleaning processes too. ie cups in the rooms - were they exchanged for clean ones or just wiped with rags used to clean sinks, toilets???? [Details]

Not coming back
Now to negative sides and why I'm not coming back. Great Hotel
A great place to relax.
Riu Jalisco 2022
[Details]

Disaster Honeymoon/Wedding Trip
2 Double Beds pushed together for wedding/honeymoon couple
No VIP treatment when bringing group and when there as honeymooners
Kids pooping in pools daily
GM rude, racist and prejudice
No room service
No change in food options
Cockroaches Everywhere
Limited Wi-Fi Service
Bartenders only paid attention to the locals and if we were not tipping larger than 200 pesos every time they didn't care. In fact when tipping 20 to get attention for a SINGLE drink they said "not for that little"
AC was not very cold at all [Details]
RIU JALISCO
Thank you “Sandra” for taking care of us every morning for breakfast...you always greeted us with a beautiful smile and provided excellent service!!!
Also, thank you to “Pillo” my pool bartender...I love you Pillo!!! [Details]
Riu jalisco
There was splintering paint on the waterslide that someone ended up getting cut with. They did tape it off. The pool with the slide was the reason we chose this Riu.
The food was plentiful and good variety. Enjoy that they really are all inclusive. That includes alcohol.
Would be nice if the lounge chairs around the pool would be wiped down daily to remove the bird droppings.
A beautiful resort and well kept surrounds. Overall a very pleasant experience. [Details]
Riu Jalisco - First time stay at a Riu
[Details]
